The film is a dramatization of the real-life story of Brandon Teena, a transgender man played by Hillary Swank, who pursues a relationship with a young woman, played by Chloë Sevigny. Teena is ultimately beaten, raped and murdered by male acquaintances after they discover he is actually female.
Hillary Swank gives a superb performance! This incredible movie, based on a true story, was my earliest recollection of actually understanding what it must be like to feel as if you were born with the wrong body parts. All Brandon wanted was to be loved.
