The Avenue Pub in Rochester, NY opened its doors in 1975 and has been thriving ever since. With a home -town atmosphere, wonderful array of patrons and staff, this establishment truly makes for a “cheers” welcome. From the good ol’ days of the ‘gay strip’ being located on Monroe Avenue, owner Gary Sweet slipped on his ruby reds expanding the community from downtown Rochester into the ‘burbs. It’s become a favorite for the locals both gay and straight alike and it’s not hard to see why. Once you cross the threshold, the “wall of shame” will no doubt put a smile on your face! Photos of the past to the present displayed proudly for everyone to enjoy the fun. Carolyn Zook, who has been part of the Pub, serving from behind the bar to its patrons for twenty-five years, sets warmth and laughter right in front of you with your order. There is no doubt that Gary Sweet and the Avenue Pub are a refreshing classic that returns year after year for great fun, cold drinks, hot food and pride events that bring the community together! Walking through the door you are completely surprised by the spacious and elegant décor, but yet warm and welcoming atmosphere that immediately draws you in. Instinctively you cannot help but to order a drink from the bar as its splash of Miami neon calls your name. Drink in hand and vibrant light show, combined with the music that forces your body to respond, there is no way to stop yourself from moving toward the dance floor. With all that said, there is a cool twist… the piano bar in the corner sets the stage for open-mic nights, with a cabaret ambiance. But don’t get too comfy in the lounge seating because College Night on Thursday’s is pumped and packed with people! This establishment was truly designed to have a “twist” for anyone, with something for everyone! Hosted by Frita Lay, with her witty sarcastic charm, the show was interactive, electrifying the crowd further. So much so that Frita Lay announced she had not seen a line around the corner in years, with people just waiting to get in and be a part of the energy. What are you waiting for? Thursdays happen once a week, so don’t miss out on College Night at Trexx Gay Owned Night Club Rain Lounge on facebook Décor Allure!! Try the girls at Woody's and you'll never be the same. The drinks are strong and the exceptionally young crowd is dancing its collective ass off to dizzying beats from popular artists. Be prepared to fight tooth-and-nail for your stripper pole and leave your suede kicks at home; this dance floor is as sticky as it is sweet. Style: Hipster, Trash, Indie Up: With this kind of crowd, you can do pretty much anything and get away with it; if you get wasted in a cesspool of your making, your fellow clubbers will ignore you or, if you're lucky, buy you another drink. Down: This hole is dark so don't expect to see who you're going home with until you're either in the cab, throwing up, or both.
