THE PALM BEACHES ARE CALLING
After check-in, I headed to The Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa because who doesn’t need a welcome massage after flying in? This place was over the top, and the spa here is all about indulgences, which was evident by pre-massage champagne and brownies. I didn’t want to leave afterwards, but alas, dinner at The Farmer’s Table was calling, and it was great. The farm to table concept has been overdone now and it’s becoming the standard everywhere, but this place did it better than anywhere I had been lately, and the cocktails that accompanied dinner were just as amazing.
NY THROUGH INNOCENT EYES
I had a knot in my stomach all morning because I realized earlier that day that I didn’t have any plans whatsoever. I sat in my seat on the plane stressing and regretting my lack of preparation. Then seemingly out of nowhere, the skyline of Skyscraper National Park faded into view. It was a foggy morning, and the sun was glowing through the mist as the skyline poked through the mist to stand defiant, strong, confident, and unfazed. This view struck a chord and started a never-ending process in my mind, body, and soul that screamed, “I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME AND I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE.”
HELLO SUNNY!
We went, we saw, we spun in circles drifting in an airboat and then we returned back to the park. Our guide wanted to show us a few of the animals up close and when I saw the big yellow Britney Spears boa constrictor, I knew that this was my opportunity to recreate a classic music video.
When he took out the boa, I stood back and watched little children run up and pet the snake while I cowered behind the crowds. Missed opportunity, yes, but one less freak death by Britney-boa, averted. I did hold a baby alligator though…

Hidden inside the Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza is Sublimotion, an experiential dining option that seat 12 guests each night. It truly is a production from start to finish beginning with a cocktail at renowned Chef Paco Roncero Estado Puro restaurant, located within the hotel. The private entrance looked like the exit of a stage door at a Broadway theater. It was bizarre but it fit perfectly into the evening of theatrics that would ensue. When we entered, we were greeted with a personal invitation of sorts, a ticket sealed inside an envelope. When we were instructed to eat said ticket, I knew I was in for something I could have never imagined.
4 LA HOTELS
With so many hotel options in Los Angeles, which one is the one to visit? In LA, it’s all about location and being in the midst of everything. When we travel to LA, we imagine sophistication, a hip vibe and a fun scene to take in. There are a ton of hotels in LA to choose from, but we’ve narrowed it down to a few of our favorites. From an iconic landmark property quickly becoming the new gay hotspot, to a smaller international boutique property that steps up the game for boutiques by providing guests with a space they will surely miss when checking into another hotel elsewhere. We’ve also included the original G of lifestyle brand hotels and a property with a history that’s sure to cause a riot.
NOH8 IN BALTIMORE
While we were in Baltimore, The Monaco, aside from hosting “The Modern Family Trip,” was also hosting celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley, creators of The NOH8 Campaign, who were there to photograph the people of Baltimore. So, we were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time and were able to attend a behind-the-scenes NOH8 photo shoot!
As you may be familiar, The NOH8 Campaign features people from all walks of life and from across the globe, where the subjects appear with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced and “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.
GETFORKD!
Forks, Corks & Cocktails is a community event that gathers the LGBT community for a night of fun, dancing and culinary overload from all over New York and even the world.
Connextions Magazine was invited to take part of the event this past May, and our team experienced the promised “culinary overload!”
5 FISHES
For special and romantic days, I like to create “The 5 Fishes” menu. The best-quality seafood costs around $75 and while that may sound costly to some, think about how much an evening out may cost a couple, add the cost of champagne, wine, or cocktails and your total really adds up. We bypass all that and create this amazing tasting menu for half the price!
TRANS-FORMING BATHROOMS
Tom Verni is an open gay man and a Law Enforcement Consultant, Trainer & Community Relations Strategist. While working as a detective in the NYPD, Verni made real, tangible, positive change in people’s lives. Verni worked as a police academy instructor, supervising and teaching recruit officers and as the citywide liaison to the LGBT Community in New York City for the Chief of Community Affairs. He is often seen on Fox News and CNN as a Professional Commentator, and in this editorial, he examines the bathroom-laws and the right to pee!
PRIDE EVENTS AROUND THE WORLD
Why do we celebrate PRIDE? Simply because if we hadn’t shown PRIDE back in 1969 during the Stonewall Riots - then we wouldn’t have achieved ALL of the things we have as a community. Last year, the United States Supreme Court reached the decision that Marriage Equality is now the LAW OF THE LAND. Yaaaay for us!
But what happened afterwards was a monsoon of states trying and sometimes succeeding in passing so-called “religious laws,” which aim to defend hatred in the name of religion.
Connextions Magazine Issue #21: #Proud2BMe analyses freedom of religion and the so-called bathroom-laws. While travelling through Baltimore, we tour a #NOH8 photo shoot, featuring Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley.
Our Featured Gay Travel Expert, David Duran takes us to Ibiza to experience the world’s most expensive restaurant, and Gay Polo in The Palm Beaches. 4 hotels in Los Angeles that will make you want to experience for yourself!
Our Travel Lite Expert, Ross Christianson, takes us on a New York State of Mind tour. We take a tour of H.Luiz Presents kitchen in The Food Trail column and we have a special Editorial of Pride events from around the world.

Read Issue #22: Travel Heels
Connextions Magazine Issue #22: Travel Heels takes a closer look at The World’s Top LGBTQ Travel Experts share their secrets: David Duran, High Heels Abroad, Globe Trotter Girls, David Perry, My Normal Gay Life, Nomadic Boys, Travels of Adam, Manny Velasquez-Paredes, Out And About, The Scruffy Italian Traveller & H.Luiz Martinez.
Take a closer look at Gran Canaria in Spain. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, it has become a great vacation place for LGBTQ travelers, because of its scenery, culture, beauty, and food. The island had no clue what to expect when 11 Gay Travel Writers and Bloggers were invited by the gay bungalows resort, Paso Chico, to spend a week there and experience all they have to offer. Our LGBTQ Family participates in one of the most popular getaways for people of all ages.
We searched far and near for the TOP LGBTQ Travel Writers and Bloggers and we captured a magical and unforgettable moment in time.
Thanks to the Gran Canaria Tourism Board and Paso Chico, my fellow travel writers and I were able to stay the week at this fabulous resort. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite reasons to stay at Paso Chico when visiting Gran Canaria.
Where in the world can you play sports like basketball, volleyball, enjoy a spa day, or eat different types of food at luxurious restaurants, play in the casinos, or watch a stage show, or build-a-bear, participate in Spike TV’s award-winning hit show “Lip Sync Battle,” or slide down some of the tallest water-slides or find a unique suspended cycling experience called SkyRide or experience an IMAX Theatre without having to drive around? Where can you drink, eat and be married without having to worry about any little details? On the sea of course, and to be more precise on the world’s most popular cruise line, Carnival Cruise Line.
Besides modeling, Victor Loo, alias Victoria Victor also does social work, and is a firm believer of advocating for social justice and vulnerable communities. Photographer Brian Hodges was in Seattle, and connected with Victoria Victor for a John Lennon inspired editorial series, titled Rebel: If I Were a Boy. Genderless Asian Model Victor Loo believes that gender is fluid. Originally from Singapore, Loo traveled to the United States with just a backpack.
Lyon Hart is a singer and songwriter based in New York City. With a knack for captivating melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Hart has caught attention of many in the music industry and is quickly making a name for himself as a highly sought-after featured vocalist and solo artist.
His new video single, “Falling for You” features stunning, fast-paced visual cuts and mesmerizing modern dance following two men in a downward spiraling relationship fraught with violence and deception. It speaks to the nearly universal experience of staying with someone toxic even after they’ve broken your heart.

Read Issue #23: NICELIFE
Connextions Magazine issue #23: Nice Life takes a closer look at climate change through an Antarctica expedition. Travel Writer Clark Harding makes his Connextions Magazine debut, while Featured Writer David Duran takes control of the images. Cruise along as these boys deal with sea-sickness and dating apps in Antarctica. We lift the veil on one of the Caribbean’s best kept secret Vieques, an island within the island of Puerto Rico. Ali Rothlizzi takes us on a journey of places to visit as an LGBTQ Family, as she travels with her wife and kids living Life Through Rainbow Glasses. Top Travel Writer, David Perry, takes us on an experience that most LGBTQ people would overlook - Kansas City, MO. He discovers that Kansas City is more artistic, vivacious and certainly more gay than he thought. We take you to “The Jewel of the Riviera Maya.” Where travel worries are erased & replaced by the sweet aromas of fresh fruits, unbelievable architectural & natural views at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba.
TRAVEL ANTARTICA
A few guests aboard the National Geographic Explorer learned that the hard way. Although my travel buddy David, and I, were confused as to why they showed up in the first place. A voyage to Antarctica requires such a passionate curiosity about the planet and its delicate ecosystems, that the whole genre of travel to the Seventh Continent is dedicated to preserving it; especially a Linblad / National Geographic Expedition. “You’d think they’d learn…or, like, want to learn,” David whispered, as a straight, white, older couple huffed out of our lecture; offended that anyone dare suggest protecting our planet was necessary. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, David.” I giggled back. “Climate Change is a hoax.” This would become our running joke.
VIEQUES, PUERTO RICO
We wanted to keep this a secret because the beaches are uncrowded, even in the height of the season, because hordes of tourists don’t flood the towns and because the natural beauty (like the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world) remain unspoiled. Vieques is our treasure and we wanted to protect it. However, over the years we have seen enough new people come to the island who understand how precious it is and who have actually improved things. So we are thinking that who better to invite to discover our island than the gay community.
OUTING AMERICA
In the past few years we have found ourselves limited to a few specific local destinations where we have felt welcomed and comfortable to visit and vacation. It’s important that our community know where we can go and share those recommendations. It’s sometimes easy to know the gay-friendly destinations. Many by now are well established, famous even. But being gay-friendly has often been cultivated into a kind of anti-establishment, sexually positive and even risqué atmosphere, which may not always kid-friendly.
UNINHIBITED IN RIVIERA MAYA
I was flying out to Cancun, traveling to the Riviera Maya to meet a group of Travel Writers from around the world. We were invited to spend a few days at the amazingly gorgeous, breathtaking, and peaceful Banyan Tree Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya. In 1997 the Riviera Maya was created as a destination dream, composed of 120 km (over 74 miles) and extending along the Caribbean Sea coastline. Over the past ten years the Riviera Maya’s number of hotel rooms has increased bringing along tourists from all over the world, due to its magnificent beauty, exchange rate and breathtaking beaches. It was once an important religious and commercial center for the ancient Mayans more than 2,000 years ago. Riviera Maya is also host to culturally-significant natural attractions such as freshwater cenotes and the world’s largest subterranean river system.
KANSAS CITY: A PRAIRIE TALE
I heard it over and over: “Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have come here,” “Ten years ago, God, no,” “Ten years ago, this city was a corpse." So a decade ago, Kansas City really was the no man’s land every LGBTQ assumes it to be. Missie B’s, the city’s gay club, looked like a bunker. Union Station, the country’s third-largest train depot, was an eyesore waiting for the wrecking ball. Property prices crashed. But cheap rents allowed artists to move in, and a vibrant creative culture was not only born, but shot forth like a bullet. In other words, in less than a generation, Kansas City pulled off a reinvention Madonna couldn’t outpace.
INTRODUCING MAX
Max is a Political Science major at Purchase College. With his photography, he wants his audience to ask questions and further their insight through what they are perceiving. He wants to evoke emotions and as a writer and poet, he seeks a raw sense of emotion, mentality, and spirituality through the stream of conscious he puts onto paper. Max recently went on a 10 days excursion to Cuba to enhance his political perspective and noticed how Cuba still has a gay culture even under transitioning communism. This was such an eye opening experience for him that helped him to release his inner drag queen, “Fidela Castro.”
