Westin Hilton Head

I personally didn’t know too much about Hilton Head, South Carolina, but after some great experiences visiting neighboring states, I thought I would give the south another opportunity to impress me. What had me most excited about the trip was the chance to stay at the Westin Hilton Head, an iconic property known by most who have been to the area. It was on the beach, and a Westin, so I couldn’t think of any reason why it wouldn’t meet all my expectations.

The Westin brand has taken a major turn in the past few years by introducing a healthier concept. With focus on the mind, body and spirit through different initiatives, they are truly making the guest experience with their resorts and properties a more welcoming one. With programs such as the New Balance lending program where guests can borrow workout clothes, including shoes, the Westin was very much about promoting a healthier travel experience. Even their room service menu has lighter fare options, including calorie counts, which is a fantastic alternative for travelers like myself who don’t want to feel guilty while indulging from their beds.

Arriving to Hilton Head was easier than expected. A new direct flight on JetBlue from NY’s JFK to the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport was inexpensive and super convenient. Upon arriving to the resort, I was immediately taken back by the openness of the lobby, and the friendliness of the staff. My ocean view room with balcony was a welcoming touch. Later in my stay, I spent an afternoon on the balcony watching a poolside wedding taking place, a very special moment that I was able to experience, from the privacy of my balcony.

I knew I was going to eat, and eat good food while in the south. The options were varied and all decadent. I might have ordered the chicken wings in the Carolina Café more than once… On that note, I was thrilled to find out the property was partnered with an activities company that offered active adventure type program for guests of the Westin.
