Equality Virginia Joins You to CookOUT for Marriage Equality! What are you doing the weekend of May 17th? Sign up to host a CookOUT for Marriage Equality! There is nothing more American than a backyard CookOUT! Hosting a CookOUT for Marriage Equality is a fun way to come together with family, friends, and neighbors in celebration of marriage. Join in on the fun on May 17th or 18th by hosting a CookOUT! Last year's CookOUTs were a huge success - check out some photos here. We hope you will host a CookOUT this year to make an even bigger splash! We chose the weekend of May 17 and 18 for the CookOUTs this year because on May 13th, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear oral arguments for Bostic v. Schaefer. Join us that weekend by celebrating the marriages that Virginia does not yet recognize, sharing your stories, and posting photos of your weddings and CookOUTs as a way to show support for the couples in this case! Anybody can host a CookOUT - all it takes is a few friends and a couple of hours to spare on a weekend afternoon. We are almost 40% to our goal of having 50 CookOUTs across Virginia. Get us closer to our goal by signing up today! On Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 8:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., Kings Dominion will host the annual Gay and Lesbian Night benefitting Brother, Help Thyself (BHT). BHT is a 501(c)3 grant-giving organization, supporting the LGBTQ community in the greater Washington/Baltimore region. DJ Steve Henderson of Chicago once again returns and will play the hottest music mixes on International Street starting at 10:00 p.m. (a whole hour earlier than previous years) and going until close at 1:00 a.m. Also new this year will be the ability to buy and carry alcohol throughout the theme park. “It has been great fun and so rewarding leading the charge planning this annual event that benefits so many in our community," said Andrew McCarty, Secretary and C.O.M.M.A.N.D. MC's representative on the BHT board. Board President and Beltway Bears’ representative Jim Slattery added, “So many of our attendees over the years have said they wished the dance party would start earlier and this year we thought, ‘why not?’ We’re really thrilled to have the opportunity to broaden the appeal of this fantastic event.” In addition to the many rides, including the Rebel Yell, the Anaconda, Volcano: The Blast Coaster and the Intimidator 305, be sure to enjoy a romantic moonlit view from atop the Eiffel Tower. Note: the Water Park and Planet Snoopy will not be open for this private nighttime event. “We hope you’ll join in on the fun, all while helping Brother, Help Thyself raise funds and awareness for the many LGBTQ organizations in our region,” said Slattery. “It will be much more fun with you there!” To purchase tickets or for more information, visit our website at www.brotherhelpthyself.org.
