New Year's Plunge 2016

The 16th Annual Tybee Polar Plunge, a tradition held every year at the Tybee Pier and Pavilion on the south end of Tybee Island in Georgia took place right at noon on January 1st, 2016. Every year on the first day of the new year, thousands of people get together in costumes, compete on a costume parade for the chance to win some awesome prizes, such as: vacation stays from Hotel Tybee and Tybee Vacation Rentals. It’s a crazy New Year’s Day ritual not to be missed!

In 2012, the Tybee Polar Plunge achieved international acclaim as “The largest gathering of people wearing swim caps,” with 2,049 brave souls plunging into the ocean that year! The Polar Plunge is a fundraiser for the Tybee Post Theater, Tybee’s newly restored and reopened performing arts and movie venue.

​This year, Connextions Magazine was invited by Hotel Tybee to witness this yearly event, luckily the weather cooperated and it was only about 62 degrees, however, for the locals, this is winter. Here are some pics from this year’s event, which is great for people of all ages.
