10 Years After Hurricane Katrina – New Orleans New Adventures

Many images come to my mind when I hear New Orleans … Mardi Gras, Dixieland jazz bands, alcohol shots, ironwork balconies, people flooding Bourbon Street, more shots, cabaret, even more shots, you get the point!

Frenchmen Street is synonymous with great music joints filled with authentic New Orleans jazz and locals, as opposed to the touristy appeal of Bourbon Street. First, we went to The Spotted Cat Music Club to check out Shotgun Jazz Band, a traditional New Orleans jazz band filled the intimate space with exuberant Dixieland jazz music that had people dancing and soaking up the atmosphere. Then we made our way next door to the Frenchmen Art Market, a late night local art fair in a small square off of Frenchman Street. Adorned with string lights all across the bazaar from rooftop to rooftop, various types of local art, drinks in hand, soft country blues in the background, the chatter of patrons and artists, this is definitely not Bourbon Street. After the market, we went to The Maison and listened to the Jazz Vipersand after enjoying a wonderful evening with Terry; we let him off the hook and parted ways towards Bourbon Street.
