It's so nice to get updates on businesses who are now posting this awesome "ALL ARE WELCOME" sign. Meredith Worthen was one of the first three showcased members selected by members of the new facebook group LET'S REACH 1 MILLION PEOPLE CAMPAIGN...It's a start! LGBT EQUALITY. What she has started with her project is more than just phenomenal; it goes beyond just allowing patrons to know all are welcome, it signifies an alliance that is being forged in communities across the nation and elsewhere. Many cities are looking for ways to increase tourism and commerce and so many fail to realize that attracting tourists by allowing the public to know you promote diversity and "ALL ARE WELCOME" is one of the best ways to assure potential tourists that your city has an array of diverse venues to accommodate any individual or organization looking for a host city or just a great place to visit. Civic leaders and event coordinators should be first in line to promote THE WELCOMING PROJECT. It's also just nice to know that "ALL ARE WELCOME" when you patronize a business. ThatsSoGayLIVE@Gmail.com www.thatsSOGayLIVE.com This is a campaign to reach as many people as possible to assist in the fight for LGBT equality worldwide. I am an author on a mission; I'm using my recent release, Living the Difference, as a vehicle to help accomplish this. I get feedback all the time that society needs this education if members of society are ever going to allow equality to become a reality at the polls. I get heterosexuals telling me their homophobia is almost a thing of the past after reading my book. I get homosexuals telling me they are so glad someone opened up their life so society can see who we really are. I've been told my book has helped tremendously in the process of understanding your own inner self, as well as your sexual orientation and has given many the courage to come out. Parents and friends of LGBT are saying it has helped them in their understanding and acceptance of homosexuality. I believe EDUCATION is the key to eradicating homophobia worldwide. PLEASE HELP ME ACCOMPLISH THIS; I WELCOME ANY AND ALL ASSITANCE ALONG THE WAY. This can be fun and extremely rewarding for all who participate... Please invite all your contacts and friends by sharing our group on all your various sites and pages! Remember, our group will fight together for LGBT Equality Worldwide and a part of doing that is to RECOGNIZE OUR VARIOUS MEMBERS AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR CAUSE, AS WELL AS THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES TO THE LGBT WORLDWIDE COMMUNITY! Our very first recognized "showcased members" are (in no particular order): SHELLY STRAUB-Editor in Chief at Connextions Magazine, SALLY HALL-CEO/Founder of ThatsSoGayLive, and MEREDITH WORTHEN-Creator of The Welcoming Project! JOIN THE GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_179421342110744&ap=1 Connecting the Dots The new professional perspective: how to be yourself and successful in the social media age Coming out shouldn't be a career-killer. But many talented professionals are reluctant to disclose personal information at work and online for fear they might be fired or rejected by prospective employers. Now there's a social network that wants to change all of that. dot429 was launched just under two years ago with a global mission to bring LGBT professionals together with their workforce allies. But discrimination remains a challenge and, for better or worse, LGBT professionals don't live in a bubble. New York City-based social media strategist Christopher de la Torre caught up with CEO Richard Klein, Brand Ambassador Ryan Young, and Founding Member Pichet Ong, to see what dot429 plans to do about it. Connextions: How is dot429 connecting LGBT and Ally professionals around the world? Richard Klein: dot429 caters to the LGBT community, providing a safe space for out employees to connect for potential job opportunities, network on behalf of clients---even find like-minded friends. We strive to enhance the reputation of the LGBTA community. Essentially, we look to break down stereotypes that potentially limit the success and career growth of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender professionals. As the "face of gay" changes and people are exposed to more LGBT professionals, an environment will exist where we can be viewed as equal in the workplace, employment decision-making, and life in general. Ryan Young: By having all of us connect we can work openly and support one another. Centralizing our own power base in order to circumvent homophobia in business is exactly the thing that makes us able to work openly and add multiplicative value to each other's careers. Pichet Ong: Sometimes it's not easy to bring your whole self to work. This can be especially true if you're LGBT. Fear of getting fired, of not advancing or being rejected by co-workers or clients. Uneasiness about drawing attention to part of yourself you feel might make others uncomfortable. But not being open holds you, your company, and the broader community back. Allowing yourself to be who you are makes you better at what you do. It builds stronger relationships with your co-workers and clients. It makes your business stronger. And it makes us all understand each other better. Connextions: Would it be opportunistic of me to say I like dot429 so much that I'm (almost) ready to leave LinkedIn? |
